During Slush, the biggest startup event of the year in Helsinki (Finland), held in the Helsinki Expo and Convention Center, we had the opportunity to meet Reetta Kaila, Technology & Development Manager at Wärtsilä to present our impact startup during a matchmaking session.
Last week Wärtsilä published the article “Pushing the boundaries of technology together in Slush” on their site where they mentioned OCEANPLASTIK as a potential startup to collaborate with on circular economy initiatives.
“OCEANPLASTIK was a great fit for Wärtsilä’s business and purpose,” Kaila says.
“They have found a quick, easy-to-adapt way to efficiently clean up rivers and seasides from plastic trash and by that prevent the plastics from ending up in the seas. Plastic trash is a huge issue in East Asia, where people live in poverty but still have smartphones enabling them to use OCEANPLASTIK’s app to seek, report and collect trash and earn cryptocurrency based on the weight of plastic collected. It’s like the Pokemon Go, game but with value.”
It’s a true honor and confirmation that we are doing the right thing when a company such as Wärtsilä publish an article that features OCEANSPLASTIK on their website.

OCEANPLASTIK is currently looking for equity partners so we can start to develop our ecosystem and launch the MVP in Q4/2020 to clean up and recycle plastic waste.
